One of the best things about life can also be one of the worst. There are an almost infinite number of options available in nearly any given situation.
When I was a kid, I had lots of Star Wars toys. While I could reenact the scenes of the movies with all the vehicles, playsets, and figures I had — instead, I tended to create new scenes. In my head, there was an entire canon that occurred between the movies (the original trilogy) and after them, too.
This illustrates how it wasn’t an either/or thing I chose. I could easily have…
I believe that conscious reality creation is how life unfolds. Along this line, though, the subconscious mind — if not supplanted by the conscious mind — does the driving and reality creation otherwise.
But I don’t want to just address how applying consciousness to create reality empowers you to let you build life as you’d desire it to be — but more importantly, how it empowers you every day.
When you are not practicing being conscious and aware, here and now, your subconscious is driving the bus. …
Introverts or extroverts, human beings are social creatures.
Some people need the energy and connection — literal and figurative — of others in their lives frequently. Some people need that same energy far less often. But it’s a fact of life and human nature that we’re social and need at least SOME interaction and connection.
When I began to be more authentic in how I live my life, people had different reactions to it. Some people were uber-supportive and encouraging. Some were supportive, but with much less enthusiasm. Still, others were skeptical and questioned my choices.
While I value the…
While writing comes relatively easily to me — I know it is harder for others.
This includes people who have a story to tell and desire to see their words in print. It may take a long time, a whole lot of effort, and tremendous work to create a final product.
That’s not a bad thing. Speed of creation is unimportant.
Since the eBook reader came into being — the Kindle, Nook, etcetera — new ways of creating books are available, too. Producing a digital book is in many ways easier than creating a physical paperback or hardcover.
When things are bad, they can — and generally do — get better.
Maybe not immediately. Certainly not as quickly as you might prefer. But they can, and will, and do.
Because consciousness creates reality — this is something to be mindful of. When your thoughts and feelings are mostly subconscious, seeing better in a negative or even neutral situation can be challenging.
But when you practice mindfulness and are consciously (rather than subconsciously) aware of your thought, feelings, actions, and intentions — you gain influence and control over them. …
Over the last year or so, I’ve joined several groups on Facebook. They each have a different flavor of relation to writing. Some are nonfiction, some fiction, some specifically sci-fi and fantasy.
One thing I see frequently is the fears of new writers. Fear of the direction of their story, fear of completion, fear of publishing, fear of even getting started writing.
Diving into the arts is not for the faint of heart. Hobbyist or professional, there are a lot of ups and downs in the roller coaster that is the arts.
This applies to writing, painting, sculpting, metal and…
Lately, I have been experiencing this underlying sense of trepidation. Like I’m awaiting some cosmic “other shoe” to drop in my life. I’m afraid of…something.
But what? I have been having a really difficult time identifying what I am afraid of — and it’s making my day-to-day practices a lot more difficult than they need to be.
SO — rather than write about mindfulness in the abstract, I’m going to go through the process with you. Let’s see if we can figure out together what is causing me this agitation and uncertainty.
A couple of important starting points. I was…
I have no control over anyone but me.
Read that statement aloud, please. Slowly. Feel it as you read it. Because it’s a very important truth.
For every single person on Planet Earth, this is the truth. The only person who can do anything for you is you.
I can offer you ideas, suggestions, anecdotes, and other information to help you in your life experience. But no matter what I share, or how I share it, you are the only one who can do anything with that information.
Too often, we see people attempting to control other people…
Recognizing this — and what an attention deficit means — is the first step in working with it.
For me, I know I don’t have ADD or ADHD. Often, I have what I call ADOS — Attention Deficit Oooooooo Shiny syndrome. I get distracted by something that catches my attention and takes over my focus.
I know a lot of people who, as adults, have determined they suffer from either Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD). …
When I was younger, I jokingly referred to myself, more than once, as The King of Indecision.
I spent a lot of my 20s and 30s being indecisive. I would stall, delay, and avoid choices and decisions frequently. Why? Because I didn’t want to make the wrong one.
When I started college, I did so without choosing a major. At orientation, I joked with my dad that I intended to major in procrastination and hesitation with a minor in bureaucratic red tape.
However, before registering for classes, we incoming Freshmen were told that to get what we wanted, we had…
