Accountability is About Me

This is my life. Hence, all accountability for it is on me.

The people in your life who say things to “help you” or “guide you” out of love may mean well — but their efforts might have the opposite effect.

This is especially noticeable when you are taking a leap of faith or choosing a path against the grain. When you are doing something unusual that can cause people to “warn” you “for your own good” and the like.

Why is this the case? Because we live in a society riddled with paradox. Be the best that you can be — but don’t leave this box. Strive for achievement — but don’t get “too big for your britches”. Aim for success — but don’t overdo it.

As such, rather than applaud people for their decisions and choices — we worry about them. We get concerned about how they will suffer from what they choose.

When you smear your worry all over someone else, it may be in the interest of seeing them avoid pain and suffering. We do tend to protect those that we love. But — when you do this to someone, you have asked them to be accountable to you.

I love my mom — and she has ALWAYS wanted the best for me. But numerous aspects of my life and how I live it confounds her. She doesn’t understand — and because she doesn’t understand, she worries.
