Apologies, but this is a terribly misleading title. What you are writing about here is not unconditional love. It's about boundaries, which have NOTHING to do with love. I would argue, in fact, we need MORE unconditional love AND more boundaries.
Want to raise capable human beings? Love them without conditions (meaning unconditionally) but hell yes, set boundaries. Setting boundaries has nothing to do with love AT ALL - save that your argument that setting boundaries is part of loving your children is not incorrect.
Love should never be conditional, and your headline creates a false equivalency that bears examination.
