Be Kind to Yourself

Being kind to yourself is too easy to neglect.

I am my own worst critic.

Nobody is as critical of me as I am of myself. This is a big part of why I work as hard as I do to practice mindfulness, positivity, and conscious reality creation.

When I do not actively, consciously practice — old, worn-out, false beliefs in my subconscious start doing the driving. Before I know it, the brain weasels are chittering away, reminding me of all my failings, insufficiencies, and mistakes.

You suck. Everybody only pretends to like you. You’re a failure. You are a big, fat, fuck-up. It’s only a matter of time before you’re revealed as an imposter. Loser.

As bad as it would be to say this to another person — it’s in many ways worse to think it of yourself. It’s unkind in the extreme.

But for a lot of people, this is our self-talk. These are demons we’re struggling with, and notions that close us off or derail us.

In my case, they’re often the basis of my self-sabotage.

I think one of the reasons we’re seeing so many examples of people lacking kindness and compassion for others is because they don’t have it for themselves. And everything is an inside job.

It all starts from within
