Does Being Kind Cost You Anything?

No. You always get a high ROI when you give kindness, compassion, and empathy.

The world could use more kindness. Spend even as little as two minutes scrolling through social media and something will show you why this is true.

So why not be kind? This applies to others whether they are family, friends, or random strangers. It also applies to you, too.

I think one of the reasons so many people feel so defeated is because we are not only inundated by tremendous amounts of negativity but also far too many examples of awful people. There are so many people doing such terrible things, whether great or small. What’s more, social discourse has devolved, and the importance of eloquence and oratory has given way to name-calling and other ugliness. There’s a total lack of decency, let alone empathy, compassion, or any amount of kindness pervading too much of the world around us.

In the face of this, you can choose to be kind. Let that guy get in front of you on the road. Hold open that door. Smile at a total stranger. Help that person change their tire. Pay for the coffee for the guy behind you in the drive-through. Do something with zero expectation of reward, acknowledgment, or reciprocation, just because you desire to be kind.
