Have We Learned Nothing?

Yes. And no. We’ve learned a lot — but fail, often, to apply it.

I am constantly learning new things. I love to explore new ideas, new ways of doing and understanding things I already know, and history.

Recently, I started rereading Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich. Written in 1937, post-Depression but pre-WWII, Mr. Hill had some definite opinions about the future and what the world would, could, and should come away with going forward.

Sadly, 80+ years later, it sure as hell looks like we are still struggling with the same shit now that we did then. For example, one thing Mr. Hill states is how the working class can no longer be exploited going forward. Yet, here we are, 2021, and the minimum wage is a salary no individual — let alone a family — can live on.

What’s more, billionaires are being allowed to be robber barons not too dissimilar to those of the early 20th century. Even a slight increase in taxation of these people would massively stir the economy and overall health of the nation.

Mr. Hill also writes about what a good leader looks like. He talks about how leaders need to be genuine, empowers those following them, compassionate, and not self-aggrandizing. Yet we just spent 4 years with a gaslighting narcissist as President.
