How do I be a useful ally?

All I can do is state that I stand with the oppressed, stand against fascism, and support ideals of freedom, liberty, and justice for ALL.

Everything I have considered writing today feels trite.

The level of insanity I am seeing on the news happening in the world right now is distressing, painful, and seriously upsetting.

Yet it comes as no surprise when you look at history and how we got here.

Systemic racism in the United States got bolstered with the election of a racist President. Overt or otherwise, Trump has never been an ally to anyone but himself and what aggrandizes him.

But that’s just one aspect of the problem. When we shifted away from a meritocratic leadership idea, we wound up with elected officials who were not just unqualified, but dangerously so. Their lack of understanding of law, order, human rights, and decency is a slap in the face to every ideal that the US was built on.

Times were tough before the pandemic. Then we witnessed multiple senseless killings of unarmed black people — and a free pass for armed white people happening almost simultaneously. Armed white protestors walk with heads held high while unarmed black protestors are tear-gassed, beaten, tased…
