I think a great deal of the celebration of successfully “adulting” is actually just as much an aspect of privilege as it is the celebration of mediocrity.

When you get medals just for participating throughout childhood, is it any wonder you still want them as an adult? I suspect the answer is no. This, in turn, has also contributed to the overall issues in today’s culture with rejecting intellectuals, science, and decades of progress.
