Now or Never? Now is Better Than Never
Setting a goal now for an approaching milestone.
Today is my birthday. It is not a big deal or a milestone — I am turning 49.
However — one year from today — I turn 50. And that is a big deal.
I know that some people get massively freaked out about birthdays ending in zero. Truth be told, turning 30 messed with my head in many ways — while turning 40 didn’t.
The biggest thing about turning 50 in a year that I am taking into consideration is my overall health and wellbeing.
Certain things tend to become more difficult for a person in their 40s than when they are younger. Likewise, other things get more challenging after age 50. And that’s what I am looking at now.
For most of my life, I’ve been overweight. Presently, I’m 5’6” and 260lbs. While this is troubling — what’s more troubling are the numbers.
My resting heart and blood pressure are excellent. But my cholesterol is higher than my doctor would like — even on a statin — and my A1C and liver numbers aren’t where she’d like them to be, either.
What’s more, there is a history of heart disease on both sides of my family. If I am going to get healthier — it’s now or never. And now is certainly preferable to never.
