There are Only 4 Things in the World You Actually Control

When we pay attention to all the things that we cannot control they disempower us.

Social media is both a gift and a curse to us all.

Here we have this phenomenal technology to connect with one another across the globe. Instantly, we can learn anything at all and interact with people like and unlike us at all hours of the day and night. The opportunities this represents are staggering.

That same technology, however, utterly disconnects us. People will say whatever they want and be utter trolls and horrors online. It takes no time at all to be bombarded by awful news, inundated by unkind and uncompassionate information, and be drawn into dark and dismal places none of us truly desire to be.

One reason for this is because social media’s interconnectivity across the globe puts us up close and personal to things we have ZERO control over. You get to look inside, see how the sausage is made — and can’t do a damned thing about it.

For every scientific fact, someone offers an unscientific counterfact. With every progressive idea, someone shares a regressive idea. And worse, formerly respectful discourse mostly has given way to unapologetic hatred, disdain, and too much ugliness to describe here…
