This morning I had to replace two of the tires on my car. No big deal. Because I made an appointment, they got me in right away while I waited.

While waiting, there was a TV on. It was tuned to an innocuous local station. The morning news team was bantering about lots of fluff.

But between the banter, political ads came on.

Did I learn anything at all about the candidates and their stances? Not in the least. No, I heard one blame Biden, Democrats, and liberals for all the nation’s ills (and offering nothing at all to do something useful about that). Another focused only on 2nd amendment gun rights (can we please be clear? Nobody in power wants to take your damned guns away. Wouldn’t work anyhow. But is it unreasonable to make it harder to buy a gun than get a driver’s license? I don’t think so).

Lately, it takes just a few seconds on social media to be bombarded with bad news. All the ugly disempowering happenings right now, topped by the still-ongoing pandemic and the war in Ukraine are so in-your-face. Is it any wonder I feel frequently distraught? Does it surprise me that this just makes me feel…
