Today on Wild Kingdom: The Common Hypocrite

How to spot and ultimately avoid this dangerous and sometimes seductive creature.

Today we look in on one of nature’s most disturbing creatures. The Common Hypocrite is mostly native to political chambers such as parliaments, congresses, assemblies, legislatures, and the like. Though they can be found on any given street — they tend to congregate together.

They have a natural camouflage to blend in with the natives. Grey suits, frequently impeccably tailored, though often wrinkled from excessive hand-wringing.

The common hypocrite also has a clever disguise as a reasonable human being. While they come across as such, they have a tendency to say one thing then do its total opposite. They will make you believe that they are doing everything in their power to help you, when in fact they’ve just taken away half your rights and most of your retirement and health care funds.

A common hypocrite tends to either be a master of the double-speak or talking out of both sides of their mouths. Nearly every action that they take is self-serving or helps those who present them with their favorite form of sustenance — money.

Many of the common hypocrites have a talent from promising you the moon, when in fact they deliver you a piece of dung and call it an example of their excellence. Though often not physically attractive, the common hypocrite makes up for this with guile and charisma, though that tends to only truly appeal to a limited and highly aggrieved and pliable audience.

The common hypocrite is going extinct, but not without a fight. Sadly, that fight could destroy the whole world, which they tend not to care much about — since they will have gotten what they think they are entitled to.

And now a word from our sponsor

If you spend any time at all watching the news or surfing social media, you will encounter hypocrites. They are particularly noticeable in politics. There are tons of memes showing this, with their own words from just a couple years ago contradicting their current stance.

That they remain in power is particularly distressing. But they talk a good talk, in particular to their constituents. If you believe your life is garbage and going further down the toilet, they have the cure. Or that’s what they want you to think.

The truth is they don’t care that your life is garbage. In fact, chances are part of that is because they cut the social program that made-up for the inability of the minimum wage to let you have a home, food, and health care.

I find this all deeply disturbing. Hypocrites among regular people are bad enough. But when our leadership is dominated by them it’s infuriating.

I am well aware that there is a long, long history of this sort of thing — but the technology that should open up the ability to find truth against hypocrisy can also be used to spread it and support it.

When the Liar-in-Chief admits to the crime but you let him get away with that because it allows you to remain in power — this is surreal.

Yes, I am going off on politics today. Why? Because when the so-called leaders we see get away with being hypocrites, it opens the door for more people to make use of that and do the same.

Two wrongs don’t make a right. Increasing hypocrisy obscures reality and diverts people from any number of more important matters.

You are powerful — and they are afraid of you

History is NOT in their favor. They haven’t learned from that, and/or they believe that they’ve kept us down so far that we won’t stand up to them.

But the truth is that, in time, people will say enough is enough. The hypocrites will either be voted out, or there will be an uprising.

No, I am not calling for an uprising. What I am pointing out is that you have power. You have the ability to be in control of YOUR life, and to override the hypocrisy.

Most of the people they dominate are disempowered. That’s because they blame this, that, or the other thing for their lot in life — and the hypocrites assure them that’s the case. Those who are empowered among them tend to be too selfish to share because they think power is a limited resource.

It’s not. Power is a false resource. Why? Because power in a person is impermanent. It can be given, stolen, found, lost, and taken away. Technically a President is only in power for 4–8 years or less. Then their power is gone.

Business leaders are only in power so long as they lead their businesses. Bankruptcy will strip them of that power. Religious leaders are only in power so long as they are followed. Once hypocrisy or logic and reason overcome that they get abandoned and lose that power.

Empowerment, however, is abundant and totally real.

Empowerment is when you are mindful of your thoughts, feelings, and actions, and use that awareness to choose and decide what is best for yourself.

Empowered people tend not to need leaders “in power” over them. Guides, mentors, companions — but not someone to follow. Which is what “they” are most afraid of. If you are empowered they lose their so-called control.

Take charge of you

Practicing mindfulness allows you to take charge of you. By being aware of what you are thinking, what and how you are feeling, and the intention of your actions you gain control over yourself.

Which is, in point of fact, the only thing over which anyone has any real control. You are the only one inside your own head thinking, feeling, and acting. Nobody else can do that for you.

Which means you can choose not to be a hypocrite, too. If you are doing something that you despise seeing other people doing you can change it.

When you are empowered, and not allowing outside influences to dominate your thinking, you can make changes. You gain the ability to better your life, which in turn can help better the lives of others.

No matter what the common hypocrite says and does, you matter. You are worthy and deserving of your own good, and they can take a long walk off a short pier into a vat of hot liquid magma.

Spotting a hypocrite is fairly easy. Avoiding them and their incredible BS is a bit more of a challenge. But you are as powerful as they fear — so use that to avoid them and overcome their so-called power.

You are worthy and deserving of using your mindfulness to find and/or create the reality in which you desire to live. When all is said and done you and I matter. Please don’t be a hypocrite.
