What are You Thankful For?

Giving thanks should be an everyday occurrence.

Today, in the United States, is Thanksgiving. Right off the bat, let’s disregard why this is a national holiday and the various controversies we could explore — and instead look to the name and overall concept.

In other words, let’s talk about gratitude.

The most powerful creator in the entire Universe, after love, is gratitude. And I can make an argument for love and gratitude being intertwined.

Expressing gratitude empowers you and what you give gratitude to. It is a two-way street and the ultimate builder of everything.

Gratitude is not just saying “thank you” but also feeling grateful. It is thought, feeling, action, and intention all in one single dose.

Mindfulness, in other words.

Mindfulness is how you be aware of yourself and conscious of your mindset/headspace/psyche in the here-and-now. That consciousness, then, helps you to create just about anything you can imagine.

Gratitude is a connector. It builds bridges. And it is ALWAYS a positive force.

Just to clarify — this is the whole package of gratitude. Saying “thanks,” thinking about being thankful, and feeling gratitude with the intent to share that by offering the words. Saying “thank you” sarcastically or with no feeling isn’t gratitude and serves no purpose.

Being thankful and expressing gratitude empowers on every level.

The building of bridges

When you do something nice for me and I say “thank you” it makes us both feel good. This helps us to make a greater connection.

As I wrote recently, connection is generally the end-all-be-all that has us looking for meaning. Making connections and impacting the world in various ways helps us to grow and evolve.

Expressing gratitude creates that connection. It bridges gaps and connects us to one another in a lot of different ways.

General or specific, gratitude is a creator. It doesn’t cause harm or destroy or otherwise evoke negativity.

In its truest self, expressing thankfulness is empowering and makes you feel good.

I know that I am repeating myself a lot here, but I can’t emphasize the enormity of the power of gratitude enough. Every self-improvement, self-help, self-awareness, mindfulness, psychological, and new-age idea recognizes the power of it.

Giving thanks tends to be easier than receiving it. Part of that is a sense of humility — which can be a very good thing. But it also cuts us off from a tool of empowerment. Receiving thanks and feeling the gratitude bridges a connection between you and the person who thanked you.

That connection is no greater nor lesser than what is made when you are the one giving thanks.

There is almost no other power in the Universe with this capacity for positivity.

Size matters not

Whether you are grateful for something humongous or something microscopic — it’s all good.

Lots of people neglect the power of gratitude practice because there are days where it’s hard to feel.

That’s how I started today. Why? Because I had a couple of experiences that didn’t make me feel very good, and I was feeling a bit down about my life.

You know what? That happens to everyone. Despite this, I realize that I have lots and lots and lots of things to be grateful for.

What am I thankful for today? This is by no means a complete list, but my gratitude today includes:

· My wife

· Our home

· My cats

· All my friends

· Sunlight

· The ability to write this

· Forging connections via writing

· Unrealized potential

· Tasty food

· The smell of fresh-baked goods

· Coffee

· You (thanks for reading this!)

These are just things I thought of sitting here coming up with what I have at this moment to be grateful for.

Society has a terrible habit of focusing on lack, scarcity, insufficiency, and what we don’t have. But when all is said and done, for the most part, the majority of us have quite a lot. And this applies to both the material and immaterial.

Sure, there is always room for improvement. There are things we strive for and desire to have — tangible and intangible. There’s nothing wrong with that because it’s part of how we grow and evolve.

But to gain anything in life — literal or figurative — gratitude for what you already have is one of the main empowerers of conscious reality creation.

When you give thanks, you get thanks. Give more, get more.

Gratitude is an abundance creator.

Start today, give thanks tomorrow, too

I would like to offer you a challenge.

Today we focus on giving thanks. My challenge to you is this — do so again tomorrow. In fact, for the next week, I challenge you to write 5 things you are grateful for every day.

Write them down. But don’t stop there.

Say them aloud. Give them thought. Feel the gratitude for them.

A week from now, see if you are feeling more positive, more abundant, and more centered and grounded.

If not — nothing ventured, nothing gained. But expressing gratitude does no harm. It is pure unadulterated abundance and positivity.

This is a power that can change your life. And if your life isn’t awesome or where you want it to be, why not make use of this?

If your life is pretty awesome — then you have a lot to be grateful for. Take nothing for granted and use the power of gratitude to build more and better.

Use gratitude to help those you care about who are struggling. “Thank you” can turn a person’s whole day around.

Today may be Thanksgiving but giving thanks should be an everyday occurrence.
