What Does Genuine Self-Care Really Look Like?

Self-care is NOT selfish and frequently more intangible than tangible.

It’s too easy to hear the words “self-care” and not immediately picture one of the following:

· A luxurious massage

· Soaking in a bubble bath

· Lounging on a divan eating bon-bons

· Relaxing on a beach with a fruity cocktail

While all of these can be tools for self-care — they are not genuine self-care.

What’s the difference?

Genuine self-care is not some big, overarching break from normal life activities. Neither is it some expensive escape. True self-care is giving yourself processing time, giving kindness and compassion to yourself, and allowing thoughts and feelings to pass through you.

The ideas I shared above can often come across as deeply selfish. But self-care in its true form is not selfish. It is necessary for our overall wellness, health, and wellbeing.

This applies to our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Why? Because self-care is as necessary as diet and exercise.

Why is this necessary?
