Why Do You Need to Be What They Need You to Be?
How and why do you need to be beyond what you desire?
What makes me happy?
Storytelling. Writing these blogs. Recording my podcast. Time with my wife. Time with friends and family. Taking walks and going on hikes. Medieval fencing. Sunlight. Starry nights. A steady rain. My cats. Dogs. Chocolate. Coffee. Birdsong. And more.
As I sit here composing this blog, I have much of the above, right now. One of my cats is near, it’s a sunny day with birds out my window singing, I’m telling this story/writing this blog, and I have a mug of fresh coffee.
Instead of feeling content, though, I’m a little uneasy. Why? Concerns about paying this month’s bills, distress about family, and brain weasels chittering away about how I’m ridiculous, deluded, and possibly crazy.
What’s that about? It’s a combination of self-judgment and a feeling that I need to be what they need me to be.
But who the hell are they, anyhow?
