Why Is Respecting Our Differences and Similarities Such a Challenge?
Because what we don’t understand we frequently find hard to accept.
Did you know that nobody but you can think and feel what and how you do?
Sure, we can name our thoughts and emotions similarly. But what they are and how they feel will differ just as much as you and I differ.
For the record — we are each 1 in approximately 8 billion. Every single one of us is unique and equally separate.
What does that mean? It means that no matter how similar you are to anyone else — you’re still unique. And that extends into your deepest depths of consciousness and subconsciousness.
What strikes me as both funny and sad, is how people argue over both similarities AND differences. Take the great-granddaddy of them all — religion. Despite numerous monotheistic variations, despite an overarching belief in one god, they fight — sometimes violently — over other bits and pieces.
Personal, impersonal, consequential, or otherwise — respecting both our differences AND our similarities is challenging. Why is that?
