You do You

It’s all you can do, really.

I have no control over anyone but me.

Read that statement aloud, please. Slowly. Feel it as you read it. Because it’s a very important truth.

For every single person on Planet Earth, this is the truth. The only person who can do anything for you is you.

I can offer you ideas, suggestions, anecdotes, and other information to help you in your life experience. But no matter what I share, or how I share it, you are the only one who can do anything with that information.

Or not.

Too often, we see people attempting to control other people. Disempower someone enough and you can get them to align with you. Maybe they will even follow you and do your bidding. For a while.

Eventually, however, something will happen that will wake them up to the fact that they had control all-along — and your control wasn’t real.

The only person you control is you. Hence, you get to decided to be good, bad, indifferent, or what-have-you. Choose to be a kind, generous, and compassionate person — or an asshole. You do you.

Selfish? Yes — and no. Ultimately, to be kind and compassionate to others you must be kind and compassionate to yourself. Odds are. If you’re an asshole to yourself, you’re an asshole…
