You Don’t Know Better Than the Medical Professionals
Self-Awareness, Google, and AI cannot replace medical professionals.
Recently, my mother was briefly hospitalized. Without getting into the specifics, she had multiple infections that were not being resolved — and needed IV antibiotics. Her doctor sent her to the hospital for treatment.
Now she’s home. And is still on IV antibiotics for a week. It’s been advised that she stay put so long as she’s on the IV.
But insurance says she can still go to ‘place x’. And she has an appointment to go to ‘place y’, which is similar to — but not specifically — ‘place x’. So, despite the IV antibiotics, she’s planning to still visit ‘place y’.
I haven’t a medical degree — and she doesn’t have one, either. But I think staying put — at home — while on IV antibiotics, is probably what the medical professionals would advise.
In December, my mother-in-law (MiL) got sick, and it turned out to be an aggressive brain cancer. Treatment and medications were prescribed to keep her healthy as long as possible and help her to maintain her quality of life.
